Members of the Boardman High School Spartan Marching band got in touch with their inner super powers during the school’s annual band night at Boardman Spartan Stadium Sept. 8.

Audience members were entertained as the Boardman Spartan Marching Band members combined music and theatrics during their superhero themed performance. At one point, a student dressed as Superman appeared out of a phone booth in the middle of the field and Batman and his bat mobile rolled across the field.

“Every year, we host a band night. We’ve been doing it for decades. It’s our showcase because the Boardman band has a very busy schedule, but our band night gives us a chance to show off. It’s like our marching band outdoor concert. We feel great about our show. It’s a big production and I’m extremely proud of the work these kids do. I get pretty much into the music. I’m standing on the sideline making sure that everything goes right, but I always make sure I dance. It lets the students know that someone is enjoying the beats of their music even if it’s just me,” said band director Tom Ruggieri.

Audience members cheered during the band’s Olympic dedication, which included 1972 Olympic marathon runner, Riccardo Condori. The event also included music from Valley bands from Struthers, West Branch, Springfield, Lowellville, Austintown, Canfield and Howland.
