Fitch volleyball team falls to Girard

The Fitch volleyball team lost to Girard 25-18, 13-25, 25-16 in a tri-match on Sept. 15. The leading server was Gabi Gessler with five aces. Leading attacker Cali Mikovich, had six kills. Leading setter Tiffany Rapovy gave nine assists, while leading defender Alana Callahan had 11 digs.

Fitch netters loses to Salem

The Fitch volleyball team lost to Salem 25-21, 25-22 in a tri-match on Sept. 15. The leading attacker was Taylor Herman with five kills. Leading setter Sydney Greenwood gave six assists. Leading defender Alana Callahan had 11 digs, while leading blocker Taylor Herman had two blocks.

Fitch golfers win match against Boardman

The Fitch boys golf team defeated Boardman 165-167 on Sept. 13 at the Deer Creek golf course. Leading the Fitch team were Matt Matasy (37), Adam Catauro (42), Joey Shushok (43) and Cameron Gumble (43).

Falcons boys varsity soccer undefeated

The Austintown Fitch boys soccer has started the season is 4-0. Fitch beat West Branch 4-1 led by three goals from Nate Bowlen and one by Tony Mortaro. Fitch beat Salem 2-1, with goals from Kyle Kosco and Ben Conley and assists by Alex Smith and Keanu Shelton. Austintown topped Howland 2-0 behind goals from Shane Linton and Nathen Bowlen and assists by Kyle Kosco. Ben Conley scored Fitch’s lone goal in a 1-0 win over Poland.

Girls golf loses to Mooney

The Fitch girls golf team lost to Cardinal Mooney 181-188 on Sept. 12 at the Deer Creek golf course. Leading the Fitch team were Rachel Williamson (39), Kelly Vesey (47), Jaclynn Choma (49) and Chelsea Raymer (53).

Varsity girl soccer ties

Girls varsity soccer tied Hubbard on Sept. 12. Fitch attempted three corner kicks and 10 shots on goal, but all were blocked by Hubbard goalkeeper Melinda Gihax. Fitch goalkeeper Jessica Scott blocked all five shot on goal attempted by Hubbard. Fitch is now 4-2-2 for the season and 2-1-1 for the league. The junior varsity team defeated Hubbard, 6-0.

AMS Red beats Hubbard

The Austintown Middle School eighth-grade Red volleyball team defeated Hubbard 25-20, 25-13 at Hubbard on Sept. 12.

Boys golf defeats Struthers

The Fitch boys golf team defeated Struthers 168-192 at the Deer Creek golf course on Sept. 11. Leading the team were Matt Matasy (41), Joey Shushok (41), Dom Ignazio (42) and Adam Catauro (44).

Austintown volleyball beats Struthers

The Austintown varsity volleyball team beat Struthers 25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 25-14 on Sept. 11 at Austintown. The leading server was Sarah Melfe with a total of 10 points, six of which were aces. Leading attackers Maura Bianco and Sarah Melfe attempted 25 strikes and completed six kills.

The junior varsity team also won its match, 25-5 and 25-17.

Girls golf defeats Niles

The Fitch girls golf team defeated Niles 194-242 at the Deer Creek golf course on Sept. 10. Top players for Fitch were Rachel Williamson (40), Jamie Rasor (49), Chelsea Raymer (50) and Jaclyn Choma (55).

Youngstown Orthopaedic Saturday sports clinic

Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates’ Saturday sports clinics, geared specifically to fall sports student-athletes in need of immediate attention to sports injuries, is underway. The clinics run from 9-11 a.m. every Saturday throughout the high school sports season.

These clinics are open to players involved in football, volleyball, soccer, golf and other high school and college sports. They are held at the practice’s Building A at the northwest corner of Tippecanoe Road and Boardman-Canfield Road in Canfield. More information is available at www.youngstownortho.com.
