Lloyd to host fall festival
The Lloyd Elementary School Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) will host its annual Fall Festival Sept. 28 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., on school grounds, located at 5705 Norquest Blvd. The public event will feature baked goods and crafts sold by PTA members. Proceeds from the event will be used for programs for students throughout the school year. For more information, contact Nicole Cain at 330-718-2629.
Pork-kraut dinner
The Youngstown Saxon Club, located on Meridian Road, will host its 60th Pork-kraut dinner tomorrow from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
The price is $8.75 for adults and $5 for children and includes dessert, coffee, tea or pop.
The public is welcome and take-outs will be available.
Bike smart at Mill Creek
Mill Creek MetroParks will be hosting the Bike Smart program, instructed by Mill Creek MetroParks Police Bike Patrol Officer Christian Hunter and Recreation Program Coordinator Angela McGrady.
The program will take place today from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be bike riding lessons, a 10-mile bike ride, free gifts and more. Bring a bike, helmet, and packed lunch.
There is a $2 fee for Mahoning County residents and a $3 fee for non-residents. Call 330-740-7106 to register.
Fall events at White House Fruit Farm
Special fall outdoor events will continue every weekend at the White House Fruit Far in Canfield through Oct. 21.
Fall hours for the market are Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. White House Fruit Farm is located 10 minutes south of Canfield on Route 62.

20th anniversary celebration today
The Shops at Boardman Park’s 20th anniversary celebration will be today from 6:30-10:30 p.m.
The Shops Party Tents will be located behind Quaker Steak and Lube on state Route 224. The evening will include a car/bike cruise at 6 p.m., The Houseband performing at 7:30 p.m., Jeff Kelly from WBBG 106.1 as emcee and Fireworks by BJ Alan at 9:45 p.m.
Baby Brilliant event to happen in Austintown
The Austintown library will host Baby Brilliant events every Tuesday in September at 10 a.m. This event is for caregivers and their little ones who are 6 to 23 months and includes 20 minutes of language enrichment, including rhymes, songs and stories, followed by time to play and socialize. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Fun time for 4’s and 5’s
There will be developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child (ages 4-5) become a successful reader at the Austintown library every Wednesday in September at 11 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

This event is for caregivers and young children, ages 2-5. Everyone will move their bodies in various ways to encourage brain development and to associate positive feelings with language learning at the Austintown library every Tuesday in September at 11 a.m. Children with special needs are always welcome. Tales and talk for 2’s and 3’s
The Austintown library will be reading developmentally-appropriate books, singing songs and rhymes, finger plays and offering other activities that will help your child (ages 2-3) become a successful reader every Wednesday in Sepember at 10 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
School of nursing hosts annual alumni luncheon
The 25th annual alumni luncheon for the Trumbull Memorial Hospital School of Nursing will be held on Oct. 6 at The Center at Brittany Place, 336 Vienna Ave (Route 46), Niles.
Guess ‘n go at the library
Guess the number of items in the jar at the Austintown library during regular business hours all during the month of September. The closest guess wins. This event if for children of all ages.
Local doctor offers free health lectures
Dr. Kathleen Padgitt, local kidney specialist, is presenting a series of lectures for healthy living. The program will be hosted in St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center’s Azalea Room. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Bring your Kindle to the Austintown library at 6 p.m. on Wednesday and the librarians will show you how to download eBooks from the library’s digital catalog on the website.

First read the book, then bring it to life in art. “The Monstrumologist” author Rick Yancey will be coming to the main library on Oct. 16 and to coincide with his visit, for the 2012 art contest, you can illustrate your favorite character or scene from any of the Monstrumologist books. Any visual medium is welcome. You can submit your drawing, painting, sketch, photograph, computer-generated art, etc. on paper no larger than 11-by-17, to any library in Mahoning County. Be sure to put your name, telephone number and grade on the back of your artwork. Entries will be judged in two groups (grades 7-9 and grades 10-12) and prizes will be awarded to one winner and one runner-up from each group. Prizes include dinner with the author, a signed copy of “The Monstrumologist” and a monetary award. Entries must be received by no later than Oct. 6. This event is for teens in grades 7-12 who live in or attend school in Mahoning County.

Austintown, Boardman, and Poland libraries are not open from 1-5 p.m. on Sundays.
