Vote set on Trumbull JFS director

Staff report

WARREN

Atty. John Gargano, who has served as legal adviser to the Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services, One-Stop job training office and Child Support Enforcement Agency for 25 years, is expected to become the permanent JFS and One-Stop director today.

He also will have a supervisory role over Child Support, but Child Support has its own interim director.

He will earn $99,500 annually, which is about $8,000 less than the director before him, Tom Mahoney, earned.

Gargano also saves the county about $70,000 annually by continuing to provide legal advice to the departments at no additional cost, said James Keating, Trumbull County Human Resources director.

Gargano has served as interim director of JFS and One-Stop for the past year.

“Over the past year, we’ve improved and will continue to improve,” Gargano said of the agencies that oversee government assistance and job programs.

A vote is planned at today’s commissioners meeting.
