On Sunday, the Bob Evans Restaurants on Boardman-Canfield Road in Canfield and East State Street in Salem will have Community Fun Days to raise money for the The Big Reach Center of Hope’s fight against hunger in the Mahoning Valley. Valley residents are asked to visit www.bigreachministries.org to print a coupon and present it with their receipt between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Fifteen percent of their bills will be donated to the Center of Hope. The Big Reach Center of Hope, a Greenford Christian Church ministry, provides resources and opportunities to help low-income and under served individuals in Mahoning, Columbiana, Trumbull, Stark and surrounding counties.

YOUNGSTOWN

Pembrooke Place Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, 850 E. Midlothian Blvd., is offering a panel of representatives from The Prescription Drug Assistance Program in Youngstown, The Social Security Office and Anthem Insurance who will discuss the cost of medication and how to get help getting prescription drugs. The event, from 5 to 6 p.m. Oct. 3, is free and open to the public. Call 330-788-3038 by Oct. 1 for reservations.

Drug take-back

COLUMBIANA

Columbiana County residents can drop off unused, unwanted or expired medications at three locations in the county from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 29. The event is part of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day sponsored by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

The locations are: East Liverpool City Hospital’s main entrance, 425 W. Fifth St., East Liverpool; Salem Medical Center (across the street from Salem Community Hospital), 2094 East State St., Salem; and the Columbiana County Health Department, 7360 state Route 45, Lisbon.

Area residents will remain in their cars and hand off the unwanted medications to local law enforcement officers, who will be the only staff handling the medications. No requests for identification will be asked. Medication may be kept in its original container or removed from the original container. If an original container is disposed, participants are asked to remove personal identifying information from the prescription label. Liquid medications may be dropped off but the cap should be tightly sealed to prevent leakage.

The First Ohio Chapter of the Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 2 at the D&E Clinic, 142 Javit Court. Ernestine Hargett of Ohio Legal Services is the speaker. Her topic is “Services for Our Special Kids.”
