Woman who shot at husband outside court sentenced

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania woman who shot at her husband outside a district justice’s office has been ordered to spend at least eight years in prison.

Sixty-one-year-old Judy Sprankle’s daughter testified at Tuesday’s sentencing that her mother had been abused by the man she fired at last September outside a Punxsutawney magistrate’s office.

Police say Sprankle, of Reynoldsville, was set to appear for a hearing on charges she had threatened Elmer Sprankle when she pulled a gun and fired at his vehicle. Investigators say Judy Sprankle told officers who responded that she meant them no harm but wanted to kill her now ex-husband.

Sprankle pleaded guilty last week to two counts of attempted homicide. Jefferson County judge John Foradora says Sprankle will be eligible for parole before her 70th birthday.
