YOUNGSTOWN
The Rev. John E. Keehner has been appointed pastor of St. Christine Parish on the West Side by Bishop George V. Murry, effective next Saturday. Father Keehner completed seminary studies at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Cincinnati. After ordination on June 12, 1993, he was appointed associate pastor at St. Charles Parish in Boardman. In 1997, he began graduate studies in Canon Law in Rome, and returned to the diocese in 1999 as a judge for the Diocesan Tribunal. Father Keehner was appointed vice rector of St. Columba Cathedral in 2000. In 2003, he was named director of campus ministry at Youngstown State University, in addition to his other assignments. He was appointed Advocate, Judge, Defender of the Bond and Episcopal Delegate on the Diocesan Tribunal in 2004. Father Keehner was appointed rector of St. Columba Cathedral and pastor of St. Casimir Parish in Youngstown in 2007. These two parishes have since merged as St. Columba Cathedral Parish.
Fall seminar set

Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 471 Mathews Road, will host its annual fall seminar Friday through Sept. 23. Speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Gareth Edwards, whose background was in academic work, having been a research fellow after completing his doctorate in geography. He was involved in planting a new church and from there received his calling into full-time Christian service beginning with five years with the Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship. He has been in pastoral ministry for 22 years in three churches and now is pastor of Hill Park Baptist Church, Haverfordwest, West Wales. He is a member of the management board of the Evangelical Movement of Wales.
Sessions will take place at 7 p.m. Friday on “God’s Man for God’s Work” and 7 p.m. next Saturday on “Facing the Challenge — Part One: The Size of the Task.” Sessions Sept. 23 on “Facing the Challenge — Part Two: The Enemy Without” will be at 9:30 a.m., “Facing the Challenge — Part Three: Trials Within” at 10:55 a.m. and “Building a Community of Worshippers” at 6:30 p.m.

Hebrew worship
YOUNGSTOWN
The Davidic Army of God Ministry, under the direction of Rev. Marion Masters, will present a genuine rendition of Hebrew praise and worship with Davidic harps, shofars, ancient instruments, garments and a full-sized replica of the Ark of the Covenant. It will be accompanied with teaching on the significance to Christians in relation to “God’s Presence and Glory.” The event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Sword of the Lord Ministries, 907 Catalina Ave. It will start the Ten Days of Awe, which takes place between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur on the Jewish Calendar but has significance for Christians also. Services will be at Sword of the Lord nightly from 6 to 8 p.m. during this period through Sept. 25 with guest churches and pastors from throughout the city. John and Pixie Allen are the host pastors. Marking 90 years

Back to Church Sunday, part of a national movement of churches across America, will be at Poland Village Baptist Church, 79 Hill Drive, at 11 a.m. Sunday. All are welcome. National Back to Church Sunday (backtochurch.com) is an initiative that seeks to reach the “un-churched” and “de-churched” — people who once attended church, but don’t any more — and invite them to return. It was launched four years ago. Since its inception, participants have invited more than five million family members, friends, and neighbors to their churches. Harvest weekend

The Tri-State Free Methodist Campground, 1027 Anderson Blvd., will host its annual Fall Harvest Weekend event Friday through Sept. 23 with members of 14 Free Methodist churches in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Pastor Steve Forsythe from the First Free Methodist Church will speak on “The New Normal” at the public services at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the camp and then at 10:40 a.m. Sunday at the First Free Methodist Church, 16260 St. Clair Ave. There will be a cookout and covered dish picnic at 2 p.m. Saturday. Pumpkin carving and other activities are planned for the children after the picnic. Parents or guardians who permit their children to participate should bring pumpkins and carving tools. The film “The Mighty Macs” will be shown at 3:30 p.m. There will also be a hayride and bonfire following the Saturday evening service.
