1972: John J. Sheehan, the legislative director of the United Steelworkers of America, declares during a meeting in Youngstown that the union has put a high priority in the next Congress for legislation to protect workers pension rights.

1962: The Youngstown Metropolitan Area Development Citizens Committee has made significant progress toward community improvement though concrete results are slow in coming, Donald B. McKay, president, tells the group’s directors.
The Mahoning County Board of Elections, which sought a $4,000 increase in its budget to finish 12962, files suit in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court seeking to force county commissioners to provide the funds.
1937: Ralph G. Stewart, Woodworth store proprietor, and P.D. Coler, Boardman Road farmer, capture a four-foot alligator in a creek across Market Street from Stewart’s store. They subsequently learned that the animal had escaped a month earlier from a pond at the nearby home of Dr. Armin Elsaesser.
Clergymen representing the Protestant, Catholic and Jewish faiths broadcast an appeal during a 15-minute program on WKBN urging support for the four Youngstown tax and bond issues that will be on the November ballot.
