UPDATE: Man shot and killed in Boardman home invasion

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

BOARDMAN — Township police are now going through the home that was the scene of a home invasion that left one person dead this afternoon.

Ofiicers were called to 5011 Lockwood Blvd. about 3:15 p.m. When they arrived a man was found shot in the kitchen.

The homeowner was inside the house, and it appears the deceased man had invaded the home, according to police.

The homeowner initially declined to let police search the home. The homeowner has retained Atty. J. Gerald Ingram. Once that was done, the homeowner allowed authorities to go through the house, and there was no longer a need to wait for a search warrant.

Police said the home invader had a driver waiting outside, who was apprehended running through a wooded area behind the house.

The getaway driver and homeowner were taken into police custody.

Police confirmed that there are weapons in the house.

Police believe the homeowner knew the attackers.

Dr. Joseph Ohr, chief pathologist with the Mahoning County coroner's office, remained inside the house, where he was examining the body.

Police are not releasing the identities of the men at this time.
