Etruscan Press, founded by Youngstown State University English Professor Philip Brady, has announced that Tim Seibles’ poetry collection, “Fast Animal,” has been named one of five 2012 National Book Award Finalists in Poetry.
The awards ceremony and selection of the National Book Award Winners will be Nov. 14 in New York.
Seibles lives in Norfolk, Va., where he is a member of the English Department and Master of Fine Arts writing faculty at Old Dominion University. He is a teaching board member of the Muse Writers Workshop. He also teaches part-time for the University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast MFA in Writing Program, a low-residency program that features writers from all over the country.
Seibles was a Poetry Center Outreach Program Visiting Writer at YSU earlier this year, offering 11 readings, workshops and seminars at YSU, East High School, and Early College during his five-day visit.
Etruscan Press is an independent nonprofit publishing company. Etruscan has published 42 titles in poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction and literary criticism.
Etruscan books have won the ForeWord Magazine Gold Medal in fiction, National Endowment for the Arts Translation Award and the Poetry Society of America’s First Book Award.
“Fast Animal” is Etruscan’s third National Book Award Finalist, after William Heyen’s “Shoah Train” in 2004 and H.L. Hix’s “Chromatic” in 2006. Both Heyen and Hix, along with 12 other Etruscan authors have visited YSU as part of the Poetry Center Reading Series and/or Outreach Program.
