Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania’s largest natural lake, was formed when glaciers receded during the last ice age. Founded by Abner Evans in 1793, the town was originally called Evansburg but was renamed Conneaut Lake in 1892.

In its early days, blocks of ice were harevested from the lake, but today the lake is used mainly for recreational purposes. The largest muskie ever caught in Pennsylvania was from the waters of Conneaut Lake, and Conneaut Lake Park is still in operation on its banks.

The town also is where Channellock, a worldwide distributor of the famed blue-handle pliers and other hand tools, got its start in 1886.
