The Lawrence County Economic Development Corp. will host a free seminar Nov. 15 for area businesses interested in doing business with government agencies.

The event will highlight the subject of subcontracting by Cris Pierce, manager of the Northwest Procurement Technical Assistance Center. Kathy Agostino of the Mascaro Construction Co. of Pittsburgh will speak about “Doing Business with a General Contractor.”

The seminar will take place at the Lawrence County Economic Development Corp. office, 100 E. Reynolds St. in Plaza South, from 9 a.m. until noon.

Loan will benefit micro-businesses

New castle, pa.

Through a U.S. Department of Agriculture loan, the Lawrence County Economic Development Corp. has established and funded the Lawrence County Micro-Entrepreneurial Assistance Loan Program.

The program’s purpose is to provide funds to current and new micro-businesses targeting most Lawrence County communities.

The LCEDC currently has $50,000 to lend.

Quaker Steak opens new location at KSU

Sharon, Pa.-based Quaker Steak & Lube has opened a new location in the Kent State University Student Center.

The location is the 16th in Ohio.

“After looking at several options, Quaker Steak & Lube had the best overall appeal as far as menu and concept for our demographic,” said Richard Roldan, director for University Dining Services. “We conducted a variety of surveys and focus groups to research the pulse of the campus community before we made a decision,” he added.

KSU to host event on entrepreneurship

Kent State University’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation will host its seventh annual Entrepreneurship Extravaganza on Wednesday and Thursday at the KSU Student Center.

Ohio gets $1M+ in Pipeline Safety grant

WASHINGTON

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration has announced that 46 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands will receive nearly $44 million in Pipeline Safety Base grants.

Ohio received $1,055,554.
