Penn State Behrend awards undergrad research fellowships

Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, has awarded undergraduate fall research fellowships to several area students.

The students and their research:

Timothy Kaminske, of New Wilmington, Pa., is studying “The Effects of Electric Current on Friction Stir Welding.” The research is being supervised by Jun Zhou.

Bryan Fleeson, of Wampum, Pa., is studying “The Figurative Brain: Electrical Signals of Non-Literal Language.” The research is being supervised by Victoria Kazmerski and Dawn Blasko.

Christie Leslie, of Beaver Falls, Pa., is studying “The Figurative Brain: Electrical Signals of Non-Literal Language.” The research is being supervised by Victoria Kazmerski and Dawn Blasko.

Derek Pensy, of New Castle, Pa., is studying “Population Analysis of Agrobacterium vitis Diversity to Uncover the Geographical Origins.” The research is being supervised by Christopher Gee.

Franchesca Fee, of Ellwood City, Pa., is studying “Expansion of Penn State Behrend Energy Management.” The research is being supervised by Ann Quinn.

Nicole Joseph, of Sharpsville, Pa., is studying “Testing Performance-Enhancing Polymorphisms for Athletic Performance.” The research is being supervised by Matthew Gruwell.

Penn State Behrend awarded 35 grants and more than $43,000 to student researchers this fall.

The college provides nearly $350,000 each year to support undergraduate research by its students.

Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is a comprehensive residential college with more than 4,600 students.
