Ribbon cut Thursday on water, sewer project in Smoky Hollow

YOUNGSTOWN — Wick Neighbors Inc. on Thursday will announce the completion of the next essential step of the Wick District-Smoky Hollow Development Project with the installation of new water and sewer infrastructure along Walnut Street.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony takes place at 9 a.m. at Cassese’s MVR Restaurant, 410 N. Walnut St.,

WNI provided the required non-federal monetary share for this phase of the project with support from WNI members and local foundations.

WNI received a $665,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Economic Development Incentive Program through the efforts of U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Avon; a $550,000 grant from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers through the efforts of U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-17th; and more than $250,000 from Youngstown for the project.
