Liberty police seek 3 suspects in armed robbery of pizza shop

Township police continue looking for three suspects after a weekend armed robbery at Little Caesar’s Pizza shop on Belmont Avenue.

According to reports, employees said the robbers walked into the store wearing ski masks shortly before 9:45 p.m. Saturday. When an employee advised them they were not allowed to wear masks in the store, one of the robbers pointed a silver handgun at him, police said. The employee then fled the store through a rear door to the nearby Walmart, officers said.

After the employee fled, surveillance video showed one of the robbers hopping over the counter and pointing a gun at another employee. Police said the robbers wanted the female employee to open the restaurant’s safe, but she told them she could not. The robbers then opened the register and took about $500 before running through a rear door, police said.

The pizza shop was the location of another robbery that occurred nearly one year to date from Saturday’s crime.

On Nov. 27, 2011, police said two masked men brandishing handguns walked into Little Caesar’s and took money before fleeing on bicycles. Police followed them south into Youngstown, eventually capturing one of them in Crandall Park on the North Side.

Liberty police said they don’t know if the two robberies are linked.
