Authorities respond to two cases of dog cruelty
CAMPBELL
Authorities are looking for the person or people responsible for cutting a dog’s throat in the city.
Someone reported an injured dog Friday night and Angels for Animals and Dave Nelson, deputy Mahoning County dog warden, responded.
Nelson said initially they thought that maybe the dog suffered from an embedded collar or had injured itself on a fence, but that’s not what they found.
“This was an intentional act,” he said.
The female dog, a smaller, black pitbull mix, was transported to Angels for Animals in Greenford where she was treated and is doing well, Nelson said.
“We’re following some leads,” he said of the investigation.
A concerned citizen has posted a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
Anyone with information is asked to call Nelson at the dog warden’s office at (330) 740-2205 or Angels for Animals at (330) 549-1111.
Additionally, a male pitbull mix was shot in the chest Sunday night on Silliman Street on Youngstown’s West Side.
“It’s a very friendly dog — even with this bullet in his chest, he’s as friendly as can be,” Nelson said.
That dog is being treated at Animal Charity.
