YOUNGSTOWN

East High fell behind 16-4 after one quarter on the way to losing its girls basketball season opener to Akron Firestone. Ashlynn Baker paced the Panthers with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Chmicka Kennedy recorded three assists, three blocked shots and five points for East. Imani Scott scored 17 points to pace Firestone.

Columbiana 36,

South Range 29

COLUMBIANA

Bailey Mook sank the tying basket with 3.6 seconds remaining in regulation then scored four points in overtime as the Clippers triumphed. Mook finished with nine points and Megan Cutlip led Columbiana with 11. South Range trailed 19-9 at halftime but got back into the game with an 11-2 edge in the third quarter. Kendal Syms led the Raiders’ attack with 11 points.

Leetonia 44,

East Palestine 37

EAST PALESTINE

Kinzie Smith sank a trio of 3-pointers on the way to 17 points and Nicole Mann added 15 points, five rebounds and three assists as Leetonia built a 37-22 lead through three quarters on the way to its victory. Emily Schneider grabbed eight rebounds and Haley Scoville had seven as the Bears held a 27-11 edge on the boards. Delaney Gardner contributed four assists. East Palestine was led by Brooke Gedeon with 13 points.
