Firing recommended in state test cheating probe
SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) — Administrators at one Pennsylvania school district are recommending a teacher be fired following an investigation into cheating on state standardized tests.
Scranton school board vice president Nathan Barrett tells The Times-Tribune of Scranton the teacher boosted a student’s scores on the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment test.
The Times-Tribune reports today that state education officials accepted the results of the Scranton School District’s investigation. Five other teachers were reportedly reprimanded.
Barrett says the district hasn’t yet acted on the termination recommendation because it’s scheduled a meeting with the teachers union.
The state began probing test results from districts across the state after they were flagged for suspicious scores. Thirty districts have been cleared of wrongdoing but a handful remain under investigation.
