Staff report

POLAND

Village council is expected to discuss and will likely vote on two ordinances tonight that propose salaries for an appointed fiscal officer and deputy clerk.

One draft ordinance proposes that the fiscal officer will receive salary of $1,916.67 in December 2012 and that the annual salary after that month will be $20,000.

The other draft ordinance seeks to create the position of deputy clerk, whose duties include keeping a record of all proceedings, rules, bylaws and legislation. The deputy clerk would report to the fiscal officer and draw an annual salary of $4,000, according to the proposed ordinance.

Village resident Jeffrey Vrabel has been recommended for deputy clerk and council could vote to appoint him at tonight’s meeting.

At council’s last meeting, Nick Srnec was appointed fiscal officer with the salary still to be determined.

The changes came about after longtime clerk-treasurer Linda Srnec announced her retirement effective Nov. 30, before her elected term was complete. The clerk- treasurer was responsible for all village finances, accounting, payroll and meeting minutes and drew an annual salary of $27,000.

With the vacancy, council was able to change the elected clerk-treasurer to an appointed fiscal officer position.
