Boom boxes taped together close Pittsburgh highway

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A road connecting to busy interstate highways in Pittsburgh has reopened after police confirmed a “suspicious package” on a pedestrian bridge nearby was nothing more than four boom boxes taped together — and possibly left there by people who reportedly partied in the area hours before.

WPXI-TV says city police were on the scene before dawn at the walking bridge at Point State Park, next to where Interstates 279 and 376 converge in the city.

The station says a robot from the city bomb squad was brought in to examine the electronic bundle before police determined it was harmless and took it away. The station reports that Twitter feeds indicate there was a party in the area late Thursday attended by as many as 200 people, who police believe may have left the boom boxes.
