Austintown Lions Club crowns 5K winners

The Austintown Lions Club hosted its 17th annual 5K last Saturday at the Christy National Guard Armory in Austintown. The race director was King Lion Larry Jensen, who has served in that role for all 17 years.

The event started with a kid’s race, which was won by 7-year-old Ethan Stout from Salem. The main race, which included close to 100 runners, started at 9:45 a.m.

Brandon Pasvanis (Boardman) won the overall title with a time of 16:50. Trevor Popielec (Boardman) was second with a time of 17:12.

Finishing in third place was Patrick Ferguson (Austintown) with a time of 17:59.

In the women’s division, Amanda Fire (Girard) won with a time of 20:07, followed by Jen Latell (Boardman) with a time of 23:26. Finishing third was Gianna Stanich (Poland) in 23:50.

In the Master’s Class, which is in the age group of 40 and older, Tom Grantonic (Boardman) won in a time of 18:30. Don Peace (Struthers) was second with a time of 18:48 and Kevin Handel (Youngstown) was third in 20:10.

The finish line was provided by the Youngstown Road Runner’s Club and all proceeds will benefit Lions Club projects.
