Monday, May 21, 2012

YOUNGSTOWN — More than two years ago Melvin Shaw shot into a West Side home killing his 17-year-old girlfriend and wounding her 18-year-old friend — now he is headed to prison with a life sentence.

Shaw was found guilty last week of aggravated murder, attempted murder, felonious assault and improperly discharging a firearm after a week-long trial before Judge James C. Evans of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

The Charges stem from the murder of 17-year-old Tracee Banks and the attempted murder of her 18-year-old friend Jamel Turner on June 19, 2010.

In total, Shaw was sentenced to 62 years to life by Evans.
