Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host “Researching in the 1940 Census” by Wallace Huskonen at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Quaker Room.

The National Archives and Records Administration will release the 1940 Census on Monday. It will be available online free for family history researchers, but it will not have an index initially.

Huskonen, who has conducted genealogical research for almost 20 years, will outline the steps necessary to make a successful search under these conditions. He will discuss how he gathered information and constructed a “Persons of Interest List” of people he will be looking for in the 1940 Census.
