Students in the Early Childhood Development program at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center earned two Gold Medal ratings after competing in the 2012 FCCLA Regional Skills Event.

The students competed in four categories — language and literacy, concept curriculum, teacher resource kit and early childhood team. With each of these categories the students had to research, develop and present lesson plans, activities and kits that met the state’s content standards for Early Childhood Education.

Seniors Ka Leisha Jones and Alisha Starkey, both from Boardman, earned Gold Medal ratings in their events. Jones developed a Teacher Resource Kit to teach preschoolers about nutrition and Starkey designed and presented a thematic unit about outer space for the Concept Curriculum Development event.
