Memorial service to commemorate King

The Baptist Pastors’ Council of Youngstown and Vicinity will commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during a public memorial service at 11:30 a.m. next Wednesday in the rotunda of the Mahoning County Courthouse, 120 Market St.
The event will feature dramatic performances by Rev. Rosalyne Mitchell Martin and the mime troupe, MIMEistry.
Keynote speaker will be Sarah Brown-Clark, Youngstown municipal clerk of courts. She will focus on the a question Dr. King once probed, “Where Do We Go From Here?”
Brown-Clark is the first African-American woman elected to lead a Youngstown governmental office. She was also elected to the Youngstown board of education, serving several terms as its president.
Brown-Clark was a professor of English at Youngstown State University and served as the university’s director for the African Studies Department.
She is a recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King Trailblazer Award presented by the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 6488.
The pastors’ council, in partnership with YSU Foundation, annually awards the Rev. Martin Luther and Coretta Scott King Testament of Hope Scholarships. The council will recognize this year’s scholarship recipients, Nico Clark, Todd Burch and DeVaughn Hardin, all of whom are YSU students.
The Baptist Pastors’ Council, founded in 1927, is made up of area pastors and ministers whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for Mahoning Valley residents.
