The 422 Auto Mall, 2000 McCartney Road on the East Side, reported Thursday that seven catalytic converters were stolen from vehicles at the dealership overnight. The fence also was cut. The damage amount is $10,000, the store’s owner said.

Accident injures woman

TAYLOR TOWNSHIP, Pa.

Shelby L. Nicholson, 20, of New Castle, suffered serious injures at 3:53 p.m. Saturday in a one-car accident on U.S. Route 422 just east of state Route 169, which is near New Castle.

Nicholson’s 1999 Toyota Camry was traveling west on Route 422 when it traveled onto the inside shoulder of the road. Upon re-entering the road, the car began to slide counter- clockwise across the road, Pennsylvania state police said.

It then struck an embankment and flipped onto its roof. Nicholson was not wearing a seat belt. She was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where she remained Sunday night. Her condition was not available.

Two charged with B&E

Police have charged two city men with breaking and entering after catching them running from a house that had been broken into at 625 Lee Ave. on the South Side.

Levon Jackson, 18, of 133 East Auburndale Ave. and Lucky T. Mitchell, 29, of 71 E. Warren Ave., were arrested in the rear yard at 617 Benwood Ave. on Thursday.

Police first spotted them near a forced-open side door at 625 Lee. The men ran when they saw police. A police officer and a canine officer chased the two, who gave up when the officer threatened to release Jocko.

Salem Public Library is challenging community members to read a total of 1 million pages in a month, starting Sunday. Readers of all ages are invited to participate in this program by reading books, magazines, newspapers and e-books. Groups are welcome to participate as well.

Participants should keep track of the number of pages read and turn in the numbers at the library between Sunday and April 30.
