The city is making improvements at Roosevelt Park and hopes to be finished by the end of the summer.
The money is coming from the park fund, which get a share of the 21/2 percent income tax the city collects, said Mayor Bill VanSuch. The tax nets $146,000 for the park each year, and money has been accumulating in the park fund for three years, he said.
Work began in January with contractor Butch and McCree installing new drainage, VanSuch said.
That work has been completed for $107,000, city records show.
City council recently approved soliciting bids for paving, which is estimated to cost $200,000, said Chris Tolnar of the city’s consulting engineering firm GPD Associates.
Tolnar said the city is paving all the roads in the park but not the parking lots.
Other improvements planned for the park include painting the five pavilions and installing an in-ground grill in front of each one, VanSuch said.
There also will be new fencing for the softball fields.
VanSuch said the city also has applied for a state grant to buy new swings and other playground equipment for the park.
