Downtown reflections

STORY AND PHOTOS

YOUNGSTOWN

There are things we look at every day and often take for granted. Downtown Youngstown could well be one of those things.

Since 1985, I’ve worked as a Vindicator photographer and made many images of the city. Over that period of time, the look of the city has changed significantly. Many of the old buildings have been razed, some have been renovated and several new structures have appeared.

Making the ordinary look interesting is a challenge most photographers face. Often, a different point of view is an effective way to make a good photograph. Sometimes that varying perspective can be the location from which the photograph is made, or it could be an entirely different way of looking at the subject.

Recently, I became captivated with reflections in the windows of downtown buildings and spent a few hours snapping away. Passers-by probably wondered why in the world I was taking close-up photos of windows, but I hope these images answer that question.
