Sunday fundraiser will help nursing student injured while helping motorist
HANOVERTON
A fundraiser is set for noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at United High School for Alissa Boyle, 22, a 2008 United graduate who was injured in February when she jumped from a bridge overpass to avoid being hit by a tractor-trailer. Boyle and a friend, Cami Abernethy, 21, of Sewickley, Pa., were helping a motorist who had been in an accident at the time.
The incident occurred in Greene County, Pa., near the Pennsylvania/West Virginia line. Boyle and Abernethy are nursing students at Waynesburg University in Pennsylvania. The women jumped 40 to 50 feet to the ground below Interstate 79 as the semi approached them. The driver of the car the women were assisting also jumped. All three were in fair condition at a West Virginia hospital in the days after the accident.
Donations to Boyle can be made at Huntington Bank under the name “Cheers for Alissa. “
