Alexandria, Va.

The National PTA has announced that it joined the Academy of Education Arts and Sciences composed of 157 of the nation’s most- prominent education leaders.

A charter member of the Academy, National PTA will represent millions of parents and tens of thousands of PTAs around the world.

National PTA’s president, Betsy Landers, and successive presidents will sit on the Academy’s Board of Governors and can submit nominations for and vote in The Bammy Awards — the Academy’s awards program.

The Bammy Awards honor excellence in the education field. The awards aim to elevate education successes in the public eye and raise the voices of the undervalued and unrecognized people who make a difference.

“National PTA is honored to be part of this ground- breaking establishment,” Landers said. “We look forward to being the voice of millions of families on the Academy’s Board of Governors and for the Bammy Awards program.”

Two honors will be presented in every category — the Bammy Award (selected by the Academy) and the Educator’s Voice Award (selected by online, public voting). The Educator’s Voice honorees will be announced in June. The Bammy Awards will be presented in the fall in Washington, D.C. PTA members may submit nominations for the Educator’s Voice Awards at www.bammyawards.org.
