Firefighters battle 2 North Side blazes

YOUNGSTOWN — City firefighters were called to two North Side fires this morning, one in an occupied home at 712 Fairmont Ave., and the other at a vacant house at 21 Lauderdale Ave.

Firefighters were at the scene of the vacant house fire on Lauderdale, reported at 8:04 a.m., when they were called to a blaze in the Fairmont home at 9:26 a.m.

No injuries were reported in the Fairmont fire, which is believed to have been caused by a young child playing with matches in the attic, fire officials said. Damage was estimated at $3,500 to the structure and $2,250 to the contents, firefighters said.

The cause of the fire on Fairmont, which destroyed the structure, is under investigation.
