Frank Ohl Intermediate students lit up the stage for their annual talent show on March 16. The event, hosted by the Frank Ohl PTA, was created three years ago at the insistence of students who wanted another creative outlet.

PTA representative Richelle Laughner took over planning duties for the event this year, and said interest among students continues to grow.

“We had about 90 students try out this year, so we know that there is still a lot of excitement for the talent show. In the interest of time, we have about 30 acts we have performing tonight,” said Laughner.

The show included performances from instrumentalists, dancers and singers, as well as demonstrations of Taekwondo, a puppet show and ballroom dancing.

Dante Bernard and Anthony Inhouse performed a comedy routine, sharing jokes about school that were a hit with the audience.

“What are a teacher’s three favorite words?” Bernard asked Inhouse.

Bernard’s punch line for the joke was “June, July and August.”

However, students weren’t the only ones getting in on the fun. Frank Ohl cafeteria employees, dubbed “Lunch lady and the Nugg-etts” for the show, performed a humourous song about chickens to close out the event’s first act.

Principal Dennis Rice performed a duet with his son, recording artist Donovan Rice, during the event’s second act.

Laughner said during the audition and rehearsal process, she found that the talent show would be many students’ first time on stage.

“We hope that it is the first of many times that the kids are center stage and celebrated for the hard work they do,” Laughner added.
