Friday, March 23, 2012

Boardman runner Mark Hadley finished third in the 3200 meters to highlight his team’s performance at the Ohio State Indoor Championship Meet at The University of Akron last weekend.

Hadley, a sophomore, posted a time of 9:25 to earn All-Ohio honors and qualify for this summer’s New Balance National Outdoor Championship in Greensboro, N.C.

Seniors Devin Campbell and Allen Starkey also represente Boardman at the Ohio indoor state meet. Starkey finished ninth in the long jump, while Campbell took 14th. Campbell also finished ninth in the 60 meters with a time of 7.05.

Freshman Jordan Grantonic was the girls team’s only competitor at state. She qualified in the 3200 meters and was the only freshman in Division I in this event.

She entered the meet ranked 14th, based on her qualifying time of 12:04.32, run at Oberlin College. At state, Grantonic placed 16th with a time of 12:32.06.

“I know Jordan was disappointed at her time at the state meet, but I believe she was nervous, as it was her first state appearance and she was the only freshman in the entire race. But I am so proud of all that she achieved this season. There are big things in store for Jordan in her high school running career in both cross and track,” said Boardman girls coach Denise Gorski.

The girls track team will open the outdoor season today at noon against Cleveland Beaumont. The boys squad will open the season Tuesday at 5 p.m. at home against Federal League rival Canton GlenOak.
