Nursing home patients assaulted; caregiver charged

BOARDMAN

A Youngstown woman accused of assaulting two elderly women in her care will be back in court May 8.

Jolita M. Monserrat, 33, of Youngstown, was arrested Friday and did not enter a plea at her Tuesday arraignment.

Monserrat, who is on administrative leave from Briarfield of Boardman, a nursing home, was charged after an internal and police investigation of the assault of two patients there.

A supervisor at Briarfield told police a new employee was training with Monserrat and reported seeing Monserrat grab and shove a female resident and slap another resident on the leg, according to reports.

The residents, both of whom have dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, had injuries consistent with the reported assault, police said.
