Oh Wow! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology is partnering with Time Warner Cable, the Trumbull County Educational Service Center and NASA to offer “Adventures in STEM” at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Time Warner’s Connect a Million Minds initiative is the driving force for the “Adventures in STEM” conference at Oh Wow!, designed for local kindergarten through 12th grade educators.

More than 80 educators are registered for the conference which will feature hands-on, multisensory learning opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Oh Wow! and NASA will help educators discover how to bring STEM alive in their classrooms.

Worker suspended

CHAMPION

Trumbull County commissioners approved a suspension without pay for 30 working days for Thurston Winbush, a security supervisor at the Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services office on North Park Avenue.

The Trumbull County Human Resources office says Winbush reported off sick Feb. 7 while actually working a second job at Youngstown State University.

Police investigate ‘gang tagging’

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Village police are investigating a complaint of “gang tagging” after a resident reported seeing the spray-painted marks Wednesday on the rear of George’s Party Pak on Main Street.

Police reports state “Bloods” and a large swastika with the words “SS Seighail” were painted on the building.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 330-542-2846.

ATM recovered

POLAND

Village police recovered an ATM on Miller Road in Poland Township this week that was stolen during a break-in at the Poland Gas & Food Mart, 57 N. Main St. during the night of Feb. 29 or early March 1, police said.

Police Chief Russell Beatty said the cash had been removed from the ATM and the machine was taken for evidence and is being processed.

A cash register also was taken during the break-in, he said.
