Small Cleveland shipyard gets $1M federal grant

CLEVELAND (AP) — A small shipyard in Cleveland is getting a federal grant worth more than $1 million to purchase equipment meant to help boost its productivity and efficiency.

The U.S. Department of Transportation says the grant awarded to The Great Lakes Towing Company DBA Great Lakes Shipyard will help it compete better in the global marketplace.

The department says the money is part of nearly $10 million in grants awarded to 15 small shipyards throughout the country.

The shipyard in Cleveland plans to use its share to buy welding equipment, several lifts, a transporter and other tools.
