Niles legislative breakfast marks disabilities awareness month
NILES
The Fairhaven Foundation recently had a legislative breakfast to observe National Developmental Disabilities Awareness month. The theme this year is “Our Community is Better Together” and has been celebrated across the nation and in Trumbull County.
The 2012 awareness theme encourages people to understand that when people with disabilities are welcomed into local neighborhoods, workplaces, houses of worship, and schools, everyone wins.
Besides the breakfast, which featured a presentation about the Foundation and its mission, there was an overview of programs and services offered by the Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
Also given was a presentation by Robert Elek and Lyle Barshney describing their journey to find a job in the community with the help of Fairhaven’s Direct Link Program.
