A former county commissioner convicted in a corruption case is asking a federal judge to release him from prison pending his sentencing.
Former Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora was found guilty this month on 33 counts, including racketeering and bribery. The former county Democratic chairman in Cleveland is scheduled to be sentenced July 25.
His lawyers filed a motion Tuesday arguing in favor of his release and saying he’s not likely to run from his family and the community.
The Plain Dealer says prosecutors have argued that Dimora has shown a lack of respect for the process and that a potential sentence of 20 years in prison could be an incentive to flee.
