A church that supported a Ukrainian-born man convicted of being a guard at a Nazi death camp says it’s not giving up hope that he’ll be cleared of the allegations after his death.

His son said John Demjanjuk died Saturday. The 91-year-old former autoworker died a free man in a nursing home in Germany.

He was convicted last year of being a guard at the Sobibor death camp but maintained that he was mistaken for someone else. He’d been released pending appeal.
