AUSTINTOWN

The Mahoning County Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated Task Force was conducting an OVI checkpoint Saturda evening on Mahoning Avenue on Youngstown’s West Side with a saturation patrol in Austintown.

A woman who answered the phone at Big’s Sports Bar, 1597 Mahoning Ave., said the checkpoint was operating directly in front of that bar.

Police with the task force are conducting saturation patrols in various parts of the county throughout this weekend, the task force said.

The checkpoint is funded by a federal grant.

A police dog lost the scent of a suspect who fled on foot after a 10 p.m. Saturday robbery at Rulli Bros. supermarket on South Avenue. A township police dispatcher said there were no injuries.
