Boil water alert lifted

YOUNGSTOWN

The city water department has lifted the boil water alert for its water customers south of Canfield Road and Indianola Avenue.

The alert was lifted late this morning after lab tests showed the water is safe to drink.

The alert for parts of the South Side of Youngstown and Boardman was triggered by a large water line failure Thursday on Canfield Road near St. Christine Church, which caused low water pressure.

During the alert, the water and health departments urged customers in the affected area to boil all water they intended to use for cooking and drinking for one minute.

Restaurants in the affected area served bottled water to their customers during the alert.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency recommends that water system operators issue boil alerts whenever such failures cause water pressure to drop.
