Canfield’s Trebilcock swims well at OSU

Ohio State sophomore Garrett Trebilcock, a Canfield High graduate, placed in the top 20 in three events at the recent Big Ten swimming championships at the University of Iowa.

Trebilcock placed 16th in the 200-yard individual medley, 13th in the 100 butterfly and 19th in the 200 butterfly. His younger brother, Gavin, is a freshman on the roster.

Canfield soccer leagues taking registrations

The Canfield Soccer Club is now taking registrations for this year’s summer league. Sign-ups are available online at www.canfieldsoccerclub.org. Deadline is April 15.

Today, the league will host a community information and sign-up day at Old North Church in Canfield. Those interested can meet coaches and ask questions about the league.

The Canfield Soccer League is celebrating 35 years of recreational soccer this year. The league began in 1978.

Brian Benson chooses Mount for college

Brian Benson will be attending Mount Union University to further his education and play football. He was a three-year letterwinner and a two-year starter at offensive and defensive tackle for the Canfield Cardinals.

Benson, the son of Lee and Renee Benson, was an honorable mention selection as an offensive lineman his senior year. The 6-0, 265-pound Benson will major in environmental science.

Drennan to speak in Valley

Bruce Drennan from All Bets Are Off on Sports Time Ohio will be the guest speaker at the Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame Banquet.

The event will be held at Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center on May 6 beginning at 6 p.m. For tickets, call Ed Fowler at 330-506-9829.

YSU women’s football coaching clinic set

The Youngstown State women’s football coaching clinic will be held on March 30 at Stambaugh Stadium.

The cost to attend the clinic is $25 and all proceeds will be donated to the ALS Association Fighting Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Registration runs from 5-6 p.m. and hors d’oeuvres will be provided before the clinic begins in the DeBartolo Stadium Club.

The YSU football staff will present the fundamentals of coaching and part of the clinic will be an up-close look at the WATTS training center.

Change in venue for Phantoms

The Youngstown Phantoms have moved their April 6 game from the Covelli Centre to the Ice Zone on McClurg Road at 7:15 p.m. to accommodate the country duo Sugarland’s April 6 performance at the Covelli Centre.

All tickets previously purchased for hockey on April 6 at the Covelli Centre will be honored at the Ice Zone and additional tickets can be purchased at the Ice Zone ticket booth which is open daily 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
