UPMC releases med, psych records of Pa. shooter

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center has released medical and psychological records of a gunman who killed one person and wounded six others at a psychiatric clinic last week.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed it has received the records for John Shick from both the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic and UPMC Presbyterian hospital. Terms of a court order used to obtain the records prevent investigators from saying what’s in them, however.

The 30-year-old Pittsburgh man was fatally shot by campus police after shooting seven people in the lobby of the psychiatric hospital on March 8. Investigators are trying to determine what motivated him.

Witnesses have told police that Shick complained that medical problems he had were being misdiagnosed, but authorities believe those complaints stem from mental problems he had.
