Expert from Cornell U. to speak at garden club

YOUNGSTOWN

Laura Hlusko of Fredonia, Pa., will speak about the landscape of Cornell University and her work at Cornell’s Plant Pathology Herbarium at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fellows Riverside Garden’s Davis Center. The Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown will sponsor the event.

Cornell’s campus is one of the most attractive in the nation, featuring natural areas, trails, arboretums and gardens. Hlusko received the 2011 garden’s club annual scholarship and is finishing her first year in the Cornell horticulture program, where she is majoring in plant science and agriculture science.

SRW garden party will be at DJ’s

Shenango River Watchers will have an evening garden party from 6 to 9 p.m. July 14 at DJ’s Greenhouse, 1004 E. Lake Road.

Tickets cost $20 per person. Patrons can stroll the garden, visit the greenhouse, enjoy summer refreshments, relax and listen to music at the pavilion. Iced tea, lemonade and hors d’oeuvres will be served until 7:30.

Dive-In Movie is set for showing at The J

YOUNGSTOWN

At the Jewish Community Center, visitors can take a dip in the full-size pool and watch a movie at the same time at the Dive-In Movie planned for 1 to 3 p.m. July 20.

“Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked” will be showing. The Dive-In Movie is open to all, and popcorn and juice will be served.

There is no charge for members; the cost for nonmembers is $5.

Pink Ribbon Classic

CANFIELD

The annual Pink Ribon Golf Classic will take place July 16 at Tippecanoe Country Club. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.
