Mahoning County Children Services and Hubbard Township police are investigating an incident of sexual imposition involving two minors.

Police said the mother of a 3-year-old Mahoning County boy reported on June 26 that her son was the victim of “inappropriate touching” by a 13-year-old male relative.

They believe the incident occurred sometime between June 21 and June 24 while both children were staying at another relative’s home in Hubbard Township, said chief Todd D. Coonce.

Mahoning County Children Services will do a risk and safety assessment of both children and their families before any charges can be filed, said Denise Stewart, agency executive director.

She said the agency is working cooperatively with law enforcement, and their primary concern is with the children.

“We look at the big picture and make sure every child involved is safe,” Stewart said. “Our role is to protect the children.”
