St. Charles School ended the year with a fun-filled celebration during the school’s annual picnic May 31.

“We do this every year and we keep it on school grounds. It’s just as a celebration for the end of the year. It’s refreshing to see them enjoying themselves,” said Event Chair Leanna Pipala.

The entire school was involved in the event and teachers also interacted with the students throughout the celebration. Some students could hardly contain their excitement and were just happy to get a day to play with their classmates who they’ve grown to love.

“They are a very close group. Each individual grades are so close that they are like family,” said Pipala.

There was a plethora of games to choose from, including Pillow Polo, sack racing, volleyball and more. Some said they were excited to get to experience the event.

“It’s awesome. I liked the obstacle course the most,” said Juliana Apicella.

Parents also got involved in the day as volunteers and were just as excited as their children. Lisa Rizzo was grateful that she had the opportunity to spend time with her son, Ben.

“I’m happy I could be here. It’s a bittersweet kind of feeling — this is when it starts to hit you that they are moving on,” Rizzo said.
