POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Liberty and Girard:
LIBERTY
June 20
Breaking and entering: A $200 push mower was taken after someone entered a garage in the 3000 block of Youngstown-Hubbard Road.
Arrest: Members of the U.S. Marshals Northeast Ohio Violent Crimes Task Force took custody of 37-year-old Elizabeth A. Hall after police had pulled her over near Belmont Avenue. Hall, of 5037 state Route 305, Fowler, was wanted on a felony warrant.
June 21
Breaking and entering: A 28-inch bicycle, a work bench and a set of golf clubs were stolen after a break-in at a township residence.
Attempted fraud: After realizing her purse had been stolen, a Mansell Drive woman discovered someone tried to open a credit-card account in her name.
Identity theft: A Tibbetts-Wick Road man noticed a $170 fraudulent Internet charge with his credit card.
Robbery: Charges were pending against a Youngstown man and a North Jackson man, both 24, after the theft of a computer at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road. The men reportedly pushed an employee who tried to detain them before leading police on a vehicular pursuit.
Breaking and entering: Forced entry was used to break into a vacant residence in the 900 block of Mosier Road through the front door.
June 22
Arrest: Police were looking for 41-year-old Justine C. Parks, 1621 Atkinson Ave., Youngstown, who had been picked up on a warrant and reportedly fled from ValleyCare Northside Medical Center in Youngstown.
Arrest: Youngstown police apprehended 21-year-old Vaughn E. Rhoden, 213 S. Pearl St., Youngstown. He was wanted on a warrant from Girard Municipal Court accusing him of failing to appear in court on drug charges.
June 23
Criminal damaging: Someone struck a portion of siding to a Keefer Road residence with a red liquid and did an estimated $500 in damage.
June 24
Theft: Terrance L. Williams, 34, of 212 S. Davis St., Girard, was charged with stealing a bag of fish and an energy drink from Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave. Williams also was wanted on a larceny charge from Mahoning County.
Burglary: To a residence in the 1400 block of West Montrose Street by unknown means. Stolen was a 60-inch television set.
Arrest: Police took into custody 48-year-old Tina D. Hymes, 339 Breadon St., Youngstown, on two outstanding township warrants accusing her of failing to appear in court.
Theft: A woman left Denny’s Restaurant, 4020 Belmont Ave., and deliberately failed to pay her $21 food bill.
Drug paraphernalia: A vehicle check near Goldie Road led to 62-year-old Walter Graham’s arrest on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Graham, of 64 W. LaClede Ave., Youngstown, had a suspected crack pipe in his pants pocket, police said.
Weapon: After responding to a suspicious vehicle on Church Hill Road, police charged 26-year-old Richard A. Nitzo II, 796 N. Albright-McKay Road, Brookfield, with one misdemeanor count each of carrying a concealed weapon, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and endangering a child. Nitzo failed to notify officers about a concealed-carry permit for a loaded .45-caliber pistol in his vehicle, which also contained an infant girl, a report showed.
GIRARD
June 21
Theft: A woman reported her purse stolen from a vehicle in the 90 block of Morris Avenue.
Theft: An Illinois Avenue woman reported the theft of her $50 lawn mower.
Arrest: Maranda J. Joyce, 32, of 211 Broadview Ave., Girard, was arrested on a warrant.
Theft: Someone stole about 500 pounds of brass plates and cylinders from a shop at Trinity Industries Inc., 1170 N. State St. The loss came to around $4,000.
Criminal damaging: Juveniles reportedly threw eggs at several vehicles on and near Ohio and Gary avenues.
June 22
Menacing: A Charles Place man told police a family member called and threatened to kill him.
Possible employee theft: Officials with Santisi’s IGA Super Center, 419 N. State St., hired an investigator to look into the possibility that a money order had been written for $300 with no money collected for the order. Also, cash drawers were $100 short on two occasions, a report said.
Assault/criminal damaging: Anthony Rice, 18, of 406 E. Kline St., Girard, faced charges of assault, criminal trespassing and criminal damaging after a woman alleged Anthony had entered her Gary Avenue home, pushed her and punched two holes in her wall.
Assault: A man reported several males jumped on him and kicked his head at a South Market Street business.
Theft: A $500 cellphone was taken from a home in the 300 block of Illinois Avenue.
June 24
Theft: A $2,900, four-wheel vehicle was stolen in the 40 block of Hancock Street.
Attempted theft: Someone entered a vehicle in the 400 block of North Avenue and tried to steal a car stereo.
June 25
Theft: Loose change was removed from two cars in the 30 block of Hancock Street.
