Kennedy appointed to U.S. Service Academy

Friday, June 29, 2012

Daniel Kennedy has been appointed to The United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York following a nomination by Senator Sherod Brown. Kennedy was a 2011 graduate of Boardman High School and is one of approximately 200 midshipmen in the Class of 2016. He will also perform the duties of kicker/punter for the USMMA Mariners football team.

Completion of the intensive four year regimental and academic curriculum, which includes three trimesters at sea on U.S. Flag Merchant vessels and U.S. Navy ships, as well as an Internship leads to a Bachelor of Science Degree, a U.S. Merchant Marine Officer’s License as either a Deck Officer or Engineering Officer and a commission as an officer in the U.S. Navy.

The approximately 200 appointments are from thousands of highly competitive candidates that applied and are based on a well-rounded person who demonstrates leadership, achieves high academic marks, and prepares athletically to be one of the few who can meet the Service Academies’ high admission standards. A federal service academy education is an honor that is afforded the best and brightest of our nation. This remarkable achievement reflects great credit on Daniel and demonstrates he is already living up to the Academy’s motto “Acta non Verba”- Deeds, not Words.
