Cincy preps for global visitors' health issues

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

CINCINNATI (AP) — Public health officials and care providers are getting ready for potential unusual health concerns as Cincinnati prepares for the influx of thousands of visitors for the World Choir Games.

The singing competitions and shows from July 4-14 will draw people from around the globe. The Cincinnati Enquirer reports health officials are prepared to see rashes, infections or other ailments uncommon in the United States.

A clinic will operate at the convention center, and emergency rooms will code treatment reports on visitors with “WCG” to help spot any trends. Public health officials also have been reviewing preventive efforts with local hotels and restaurants.

At University Hospital, nurses can get foreign-language interpretations and contact specialists with the help of iPads.

With the heightened awareness, health officials say local residents shouldn’t worry.
