“We find that we have outgrown our post again.”

Robert L. Patton, adjutant and finance officer for American Legion Post 472 on East Indianola Avenue, which is seeking the community’s help to finance an expansion of its post home and to make it handicapped-accessible. Post 472 has started a Road to Remembrance campaign to raise $50,000 to $60,000 for a 24-by-34-foot addition that will include two handicapped- accessible restrooms.

Ankie Spitzer, a widow of an Israeli Olympian killed by Palestinian gunmen at the 1972 Munich Olympics. She and Ilana Romano, the widow of another Israeli Olympian, are demanding that London organizers recognize their husbands’ deaths and honor them at Olympic Stadium 40 years after the slayings.

“This has been a very trying time for our family, but we are grateful and relieved that mom is back with us, safe and healthy.”

A statement from the Ripken family, issued after Vi Ripken, the 74-year-old mother of baseball great Cal Ripken Jr., was returned to her home, unharmed, by the man who abducted her at gunpoint Wednesday in Aberdeen, Md.
